Established in 1992, SDAT is the apex state-level sports body under the Department of Youth Welfare & Sports Development. Its core mission is to foster sports, physical fitness, and athletic talent across Tamil Nadu. They administer the Elite Athlete Scholarship, offering up to ₹30 lakh annually to top-performing athletes — 27 recipients include Olympians and Paralympians. SDAT’s mission spans identifying talent, building world-class infrastructure from district stadiums and hostels to elite venues like the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai and the Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Kovilpatti and running diverse programs such as “Learn to Swim,” residential camps, para‑sports meets, and rural competitions. It recently secured approval and ₹7 crore in funding to build a Sailors Academy near Marina Beach & ₹42.9 crore in funding to build an Olympic Water Sports Academy, bringing kayaking, jet‑skiing, scuba diving, and Olympic-class sailing training to students across government sports hostels—augmented by technical support from the Yachting Association of India. Complementing its infrastructure investments, SDAT also launched a ₹3 crore Sports Science Centre in Chennai offering biomechanics, cryotherapy, nutritional guidance, and psychological support to elite athletes. Their comprehensive and sustained efforts ensure top-tier professional management, athlete development, and a strong ecosystem for water sports in the region.

Established on May 15, 1960, the Yachting Association of India (YAI) serves as the national governing authority for sailing, windsurfing, motorboating, powerboat racing, and personal watercraft across India. Recognized by World Sailing, the Indian Olympic Association, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, YAI is a nonprofit society headquartered in New Delhi, affiliated with 55 yacht and sailing clubs nationwide. Over the years, YAI has played a formative role in organizing high-profile national and international sailing events (e.g., Secunderabad Youth Regatta, Monsoon Regatta 2025), and in conducting specialized educational seminars that help professionalize the sport in India. Its ongoing programs, including championships and coaching camps, have produced competitive Indian sailors and strengthened India’s presence at major regional contests like the Asian Games. YAI brings not only official endorsement and event governance expertise, but also access to its national network, talent pool, and regulatory infrastructure—ensuring fair competition, technical excellence, and enhanced visibility in the broader sailing world.

Founded in 1981, the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) is the continental governing body for sailing in Asia, officially recognized by both the Olympic Council of Asia and World Sailing. ASAF’s mission is to promote and coordinate sailing across Asia through knowledge exchange, regional cooperation, and by organizing pan-Asian events—such as the biennial Asian Sailing Championship and Youth Cups. ASAF plays a crucial role in expanding the sport’s reach and competitive quality. The Indian Coast Guard is an Armed Force of the Union established under the Ministry of Defence in 1977 with the charter of safeguarding the National Interests within the Maritime Zones of India. Equipped with cutting-edge platforms and an extensive operational footprint, the Indian Coast Guard undertakes a diverse array of responsibilities including the enforcement of Maritime Law and protection of India's maritime interests within Territorial Waters and Exclusive Economic Zones, Search and Rescue, Pollution Response, Anti-Smuggling operations and Assistance to Civil Authorities during Disaster-Relief efforts. The ICG pioneers proficiency in maritime operations and also prioritizes the development of its personnel through sailing activities that foster skill, endurance and character. A significant milestone was achieved with the inauguration of the Indian Coast Guard Watermanship Training Centre (ICGWTC) at Murud Janjira, Maharashtra, which aims to cultivate adventurous spirit, life-saving capabilities and survival skills among ICG personnel. This state-of-the-art facility is strategically designed to equip future ICG leaders with the requisite expertise to excel in maritime responsibilities, whilst preparing them to represent the organization in national and international watersports events, thereby epitomizing excellence in maritime service. The ICG has also forged strategic partnerships with esteemed organizations like the Yachting Association of India, Tamil Nadu Sailing Association and Royal Madras Yacht Club to promote sailing and water sports activities. The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) has formalized these collaborations facilitating the sharing of resources and expertise in a synergistic and mutually beneficial manner.
